Watch Your Step

This is Fizz, my little dragon explorer! He's one of my many random character designs that I decided to hold onto.

Here's another attempt at strengthening my background/lighting skills. I also just love whimsical, unique, ancient looking cities, especially the kind inspired by ancient Turkish/Armenian/Indian architecture, so I took a lot of that inspiration and used it for this.

The Last Moth

This was just another idea floating around in my head, which has been a sea of ideas for short animated films. It's been a while since I've done anything moody or depressing, so I've been wanting to explore these feelings a bit further lately through my work.

The rough idea is that moths are powerful, yet fragile beings that keep a critical balance in nature's energy, and they're dying off. So this little critter steps up to the challenge of trying to save them. She is shown here cradling the last remaining moth. I wanted to show a lot of storytelling with this as well, framing the two with an indication of death and decay, the dead tree. Nothing is growing here but a few weeds and moss, and the sky is dreary and overcast.

Rab

Meet Rab, my longest running original character!  He stars in my current biggest concept for comics and animation at the moment, and I'm back to work developing the crap out of it.

More to come!

Who's the Cutest Dragon?

I felt like playing around in Photoshop with one of my sketches of Odahviing, from Skyrim!

Pals

I've been watching Riders of Berk since it first aired, and I must say it's not half bad, it's very good actually. The plots can be kinda predictable but the writing is still decent.

I'm really liking how much they're taking the time to develop certain characters like Fishlegs. He was kinda one dimensional in the film, but in the show he's been portrayed as a much deeper, more sensitive character. Especially when it comes to his gronckle, Meatlug. They're friendship is quite touching, if not adorable as all hell!

I tried playing with another painting style here, I had an absolute blast making this!

Rockin' Monitor

Getting more serious about my background painting, so I've been spending a little more time on background elements.

My main focus lately is painting rocks and earth. I've been picking away at this for a few days with what little spare time I can muster. I must say I'm really proud of how it came out!
